Art That Tells A Story: The Fine Art, Illustrations, & Designs of Joel Iskowitz

The Mountain Studio

About

In addition to The Mountain Studio, you can find my commercial illustration work and coin designs in a number of museums and high-profile locations. In fact, I am one of few living artists to have had my artwork displayed in the Pentagon, the Capitol, and the White House. I've also received bronze and silver medals for corporate illustrations and grand-scale public art in the international competitions of CreativeShake.com. You can read more about my background in several publications:

A Brief Background

Over the course of three decades, I have created artwork that has graced the covers of books, periodicals, and journals, as well as public spaces, coins, and postage stamps worldwide. My work can also be seen on the obverse and reverse of the New Frontier Congressional Gold Medal. This medal was presented to the Apollo 11 astronauts, Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins, and Buzz Aldrin as well as Mercury astronaut John Glenn, by the leadership of the Congress on November, 16, 2011 in the rotunda of the Capitol. I earned the bronze prize for this medal design at the 2012 International Design Awards. Additionally, I am a member of the following organizations:

• Society of Illustrators
• New York Numismatic Club
• American Numismatic Association • Illustrators Partnership of America

Works on Display

As an active United States Air Force (USAF) artist, I have also contributed a number of oils in the USAF permanent collection. Likewise, my work at the Kennedy Space Center remains on permanent display, and I have been invited twice to document space shuttle missions.

My design for the DC quarter dollar reverse is currently displayed at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History, while my reverse of the "Illinois" 2009 Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Cent can be found in the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and was displayed in the New York Historical Society Museum. Another one of my reverses—the design for the 2011 Medal of Honor Commemorative Gold Coin—is also on display in the US Capitol's Emancipation Hall.
